Its is celebrated every year on 12 May in the honour of the birthday of the 1st nurse i.e. Florence Nightingale (1820-1910). She was born in the Florence city of Italy. But she spend the rest of her life in England. She was a great mathematician in her early life too.
She was also known to all as a “Lady with Lamp”. This spithet is due to her posting in a Military Hospital, for she did her treatment with the help of a lamp holding in one hand at night and that photograph reached the peak of fame that time.
With the help of Rose diagram she tried her level best to make the English understand how the death rate of English soldiers dropped by using sanitization.
It was she who also wrote a book titled “Notes on Nursing” and “Notes on Hospital”. It has proved exceedingly informative to our nurses. It was she who was honored with order of merit award.
Which was one of the greatest awards of the English Govt. that time. She was the first lady conferred this awards.
